Keynote Title: Customized Learning: Tinkering to Transformation
    Time/Location tbd
Description: For a number of years we've had the goal of "integrating" technology, but we've not achieved maximum effect because we are working in antiquated Industrial Era school systems. Leveraging technology for learning is not a work harder problem it is a systems problem. Customized Learning is a technologically empowered, learner focused approach to breaking out of the Industrial Age System of school. What if every day, every learner was met with customized learning experiences at precise developmental and achievement levels, was learning in the most effective learning style with content of interest, was challenged, was successful and left school eager to come back tomorrow? This is not only possible with today's technologies it is Inevitable. Industry has figured out how to mass customize products and services, education is poised for this leap.

The purpose of this session is to gain skills in the use of EDU Symbaloo in order to increase your personal efficiency and to apply the tool for classroom use. Given the time constraint and purpose of the session, I'll be utilizing a direct-instructional approach where I explain, demonstrate and then let "you do".
What is Symbaloo? It is a free and relatively simple cloud-based system that helps you organize links to anything that is web-based. Essentially it is bookmarking tool, which doesn't sound like rocket science, but it creates powerful efficiencies -- and busy educators need efficiencies!

Managing passwords tip: Pick a meaningful word that is at least 6 characters, for instance the word "banana". Pick a meaningful number like "72". Make every password to non-essential accounts go something like this 72bananaF (for Facebook), 72bananaS (for Symbaloo), 72bananaW (for Wikispaces). Having a number and a capital letter will take care of 90% of password creation requirements. Your capital letter corresponds with the name of the account. I do not recommend this tactic for bank accounts, etc.

You will notice I've embedded a webmix below. This is a FABULOUS way to quickly share links with littles or with people that do not have a Symbaloo account. How did I do that? Find the webmix you want to embed and click on the share icon at the top of the page. Go to "Webmix info & share options". In the dialogue box that appears click on "</>Embed Code", copy the code and insert it on your wiki, webpage, whatever. Each medium requires different maneuvers for embedding code.
You will notice in the share options that you can also share your webmix with others who have Symbaloo using a url. I showed you an example of how I share my TIE webmix with my TIE colleagues. I refresh the webmix when I make updates and staff members instantly see the updates and changes in the mix.

Return to the "+" sign at the end of your tabs of webmixes. Instead of adding an empty webmix, search the gallery. There is also a gallery icon in the upper right corner of your page.
You will find some junk in the gallery and you may find some gems. Experiment by adding 1 or 2 webmixes from the gallery.
